As awareness grows (here, here, here, and here) that Barack Obama may not have the stomach to lead an effective negative campaign, will Democrats turn toward John Edwards as the best hope of the anti-Hillary opposition? He was really good on Meet the Press...
What you call "awareness" is what I'd call "speculation". And, as much as I like his stuff, I think people need to be wary of giving Ezra's thoughts on Obama equal weight since he's a pretty open and committed Edwards supporter.
I think there are reasons besides the one's that Erza listed for why Obama seems reticent to attack outright. There's of course, still time for all of this to change.

Brendan. You're a political scientist. You know how much time is left in this campaign. Why do you expect him to go negative this early? It'll happen, just be patient.
