Bush's comment would be silly if it were all that he said. Even the Times article includes Bush's more substantial praise for Paulson. And, who knows what else Bush said that the Times didn't report?

I don't know that Paulson deserves any praise. Bush's style is to delegate most technical matters and then to strongly support the person he delegated the matter to. Even though Bush's praise often sounds overblown, I think his managment style is a good one, as long as he holds people accountable for results.

You have to remember that Bush is a man who has spent a year and a half on vacation since he took office.
