Obama and Hillary both like to say this is a crucial election, and it is of course. Why either one of them would want to try to pick up the pieces after all this Bush madness is really beyond me, but hey, if they're up for the challenge, all the power to them. But, no, I think this election is a crucial turning point in American history not because of the mess we're in, but because we'll find out if the American electorate has a conscience and a brain.

Sadly, if the Bush reelection is our guide, the prognosis is not good. If, assuming Obama is the candidate, the knucklehead vote somehow carries the day again and leads McCain to victory, I'm afraid that the American experiment will end badly. Unlike a lot of Obama supporters, I'm not a Hillary basher. I strongly prefer Obama, but at least the alternative has a brain. But the same can't be said about the GOP contender. If the knuckleheads win again, it's game, set match for this country. Apathy will return, the nation will be in financial ruin.

The real irony is that if the knuckleheads buy into this kind of phony swift boating of Obama's character, there will really be no hope for this country.

As a 50 year old white male with pretty much centrist views on things, I don't care if Obama is left of Lenin. I'm drinking his kool-aid, and I make no apologies, because I honestly believe he'll change the country in dramatic ways. I only hope that the younger folks who seem so enthusiastic about him put your votes where you mouth is. Vote for him, get your friends to the polling place, and get this man elected.

Even if he lets us down, and he very well might, at least we'll have done our part.
