If I recall correctly, Minnesota Sen. Rudy Boschwitz lost his 1990 reelection bid to Paul Wellstone because of an over-the-top direct mail piece to Jewish voters by Boschwitz' camp, questioning Wellstone's commitment to Israel. It ended up on the front page of the STrib, and Rudy was toast.

This must be the kind of mistake that gets repeated over and over again.

The Right gets away with using the same tactics (they represent bad guys, ergo they must be bad) against the ACLU though. I wonder why it doesn't back-fire on them then?
