Letterman is hardly a comedic genius. In fact, he's only funny when compared to Leno.

And if ELR is a well-written sitcom, we are truly doomed. That show was a waste of Peter Boyle.

As a long time fan of the Onion, I have to stick up for it here. Their piece last week, "White House denies existence of Karl Rove" was satiric genius. Genius!

Though the Dateline Hollywood stuff is quite good as well.

An interesting concept, vis-a-vis Jay Leno et al. (Disclaimer, I don't find Leno all that funny, but then I don't find anything all that funny.) If millions of people tune in and laugh at something, it's still not funny. Only selected *comics* know funny, and they'll let the rest of us know. Aristocracy at its finest, I guess. Every bit as useful as art critics.

"Dateline Hollywood" is okay, but the Onion is far better. Compare these two takes on the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie:

SAG changes name [to Screen Appearance Guild] following induction of ‘Dukes of Hazard’ stars (Dateline Hollywood)

Dukes Of Hazzard Sharply Declines In Kitsch Value (The Onion)
