Via Andrew Sullivan, here's Nancy Pelosi claiming that President Bush is even more clueless and out-of-touch than we thought:
At a news conference, Pelosi, D-Calif., said Bush's choice for head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency had "absolutely no credentials."
She related that she had urged Bush at the White House on Tuesday to fire Michael Brown.
"He said 'Why would I do that?'" Pelosi said.
"'I said because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said 'What didn't go right?'"
"Oblivious, in denial, dangerous," she added.
Presidential medals of freedom all around!
Pelosi is an angry woman, a politician who twists the truth (as so many politicians do) to suit her own needs. I'd be very very interested to hear the ACTUAL words and context.
Was Bush saying (as she'd have us believe) "why would I do that" as in "I don't understand the premise of what you're saying"
or was he saying it in terms of "Share with me your issues of why you think firing is the requirement"
Big difference here, which we'll never ever hear from Pelosi. And of course, teh Bush team thinks they're so untouchable that they don't need to bother explaining it.
