Is calling Obama a street organizer a smear? In the New York Times on July 30, 2007, a fellow Illinois State Senator is quoted as saying that Obama had called himself that:

Mr. Dillard said, “I remember Rickey chiding Obama that, ‘What do you know, Barack? You grew up in Hawaii and you live in Hyde Park. What do you know about the street?’ To which Obama shot back: ‘I know a lot. I didn’t exactly have a rosy childhood. I’m a street organizer by profession and a lot of my area, once you get outside the University of Chicago neighborhoods, is just as tough as your West Side, Rickey.’ ”
To the best of my knowledge, Obama has not disputed this account.

Once again, Brendan seems to be preemptively trying to insulate Obama from the normal hurly-burly of campaigns.

How would a post on this blog, the proprietor of which, from all I can tell, does not know Obama and does not work for him, well, how can a post here "insulate" Obama from the hurly burly of the campaign? That doesn't even make sense.
